31: The Contact Completist

October 26, 2014 at 5:30PM • 1 hour 8 minutes • Wiki Entry

In this week’s meeting, Matt Stratton of Chef Software and Arrested DevOps reaches the breaking point of obsessively maintaining 3000+ contacts in his address book, syncing everything across devices, dealing with unlabeled phone numbers and incomplete profiles, and his need to have consistent, normalized personal information across all data sources.

In addition, we discuss the confusion behind what DevOps actually is, the endless contention inside companies between software developers and system administrators, how DevOps breaks down silos to create a better way of doing work, and how organizations can instill a blameless culture and produce quicker and more qualitative results.

It concludes with Matt completing step three by finally declaring "contact bankruptcy" and relying solely on Gmail's search functionalities to find the people he wishes to contact.
