#36: An Amazing Time

November 9, 2012 at 12:00pm • 53 minutes

Thirty-six shows have flown by and with this, we say goodbye. Will Carroll and Scott McCauley talk about how the NFL might be sucking the oxygen out of the sports world, how Chuck Pagano's battle with cancer pushed Tim Tebow out of the headlines, and why MLB gives it's awards away so late. We also talk with Jason Snell about why tech millionaires aren't buying teams and what Giants fans are going through now that they are two-time World Champs. We leave it all on the field with the final Nickel.

Special guest Jason Snell.

#34: Panda Panda Panda

October 26, 2012 at 12:00pm • 52 minutes

The World Series is the focus of both the sports world and The Nickel this week. Joel Henard steps in to talk Fall Classic with Will this week as we try to figure out how the Giants got to this point and why the Tigers aren't performing up to expectations. We're joined by Ray Ratto of CSN Bay Area and Casey Stern of MLB Network Radio to help us understand this key series. We're also joined by Alex Huang of Draftday.com, who fills us in on a chance for fantasy football redemption, giving Nickel listeners a chance to win a $30,000 pot. We also remember Emanuel Steward, wonder if David Stern will really retire in 2014, and why the NFL rubs England's nose in the American Revolution.

#33: Jim Abbott

October 19, 2012 at 12:00pm • 1 hour 1 minute

Will had a unique opportunity, getting the chance to sit in on a discussion with Jim Abbott. Abbott, the Angels and Yankees pitcher, spoke for an hour, taking questions about his career, his challenges, and his life. It's a special hour of The Nickel, one you will not want to miss.

#32: Choking Up

October 12, 2012 at 1:15pm • 46 minutes

The MLB playoffs are in full swing, with two teams already ticketed for the LCS and two more to come on Friday. Will and Scott take a look at the Reds collapse, the Orioles' rise, the dominance of aces, and how good this is for MLB. We also look at concussions outside of football, as NASCAR struggles with the problem and loses their most popular driver during The Chase. Taking a break from sports, Will chats with the founders of Caskers.com, a site that curates and sells craft spirits. If you need something new for your bar, this is definitely something you'll want to hear about. We've got rum from the sea and vodka made of apples, while the Tigers and Giants have champagne. Drink up this edition of The Nickel.

#31: Three Little Words

October 5, 2012 at 10:15am • 59 minutes

As MLB heads into the playoffs, The Nickel is taking a look at each series as well as the discussion of both Miguel Cabrera's Triple Crown and his MVP chances. We bring in Sean Forman, creator of the indispensable Baseball-Reference.com, to talk WAR and baseball history. We also talk with Bob Kravitz of the Indy Star. He broke the news that Colts coach Chuck Pagano has leukemia and talks about how a team and city have reacted. This episode of The Nickel is #chuckstrong.

#30: Here's The Pitch

September 28, 2012 at 4:00pm • 60 minutes

Will and Scott don't ignore football, bringing back the refs, or the zeitgeist of sports, but they are going baseball heavy this week as MLB goes into its final week. We check out the playoff picture with Rob Neyer of SB Nation and Ian Casselberry of Bleacher Report. Don't swing and miss as The Nickel makes it's pitch.

#29: Reveille

September 21, 2012 at 9:45am • 48 minutes

Wake up and listen to the latest episode of The Nickel, as Will & Scott complain about the three bad games the NFL has had on Thursday night, revel in another September that's been great for baseball fans, and talk with two guys who are touring the country, experiencing the dream season for any college football fan, courtesy of Way2Saturday.com. There's lots more, including a brief mention of hockey and iPhones, on this edition of The Nickel.

#28: Zipper

September 14, 2012 at 2:30pm • 1 hour 3 minutes

Scott and Zippers ... man the jokes just write themselves sometimes. Find out what helped Scott make it through the clubhouse, find out how the Orioles keep winning with Brittany Ghiroli of Orioles.com, and find out whether shutting down Stephen Strasburg made sense with Rany Jazayerli of Grantland. Will and Scott talk fantasy addictions, the effect of Thursday games, and late-night pre-orders on this episode of The Nickel.

#27: Big Dog

September 7, 2012 at 10:00am • 1 hour 13 minutes

As the NFL awakens and MLB rushes to a wild finish, Will and Scott invite you to sit back for an hour or so and let us do the thinking. We'll go in depth on one of the biggest issues facing the NFL and sports as we talk with Dustin Fink, the Athletic Trainer behind The Concussion Blog. We look forward to the new iPhone (and the Giants in the playoffs) with Macworld's Jason Snell. The NFL has replacement refs, but The Nickel has no labor issues after Labor Day.

Special guest Jason Snell.

#26: Half A Year

August 31, 2012 at 10:30am • 1 hour 10 minutes

Does it seem like we've been doing The Nickel for six months? This show is what we envisioned when we started it - fun, smart talk at the intersection of sports and technology. Whether it's previewing the upcoming football season with Mike Tanier of Sports On Earth or talking upheaval of the Dodgers with Jon Weisman of Dodger Thoughts, we get right to the heart of the discussion. Will and Scott also talk about why Will's not that excited about college football, why we're not talking enough about Buster Posey, and whether we'll have a lot to talk about with baseball this September. It's another Nickel worth a bit more than an hour of your time (or less if you use that weird settings on the Podcasts app.)
