Ephemeral messaging service Snapchat just got an interesting update that adds the ability to replay a message once per day, “flash” your front camera by whiting-out the screen, filters and an overlay option with data like time, weather and speed.
With its rocky initial public offering now a distant memory, Facebook said today that will make a secondary offering of its stock next week that could raise $1.5 billion. The company said in a blog post that it will sell 70 million shares priced at $55.05, using the proceeds "for working capital and other general corporate purposes." Meanwhile, CEO Mark Zuckerberg plans to sell 41.3 million of his own shares, with the majority of the proceeds used to pay taxes on the exercise of his stock options earlier this year. Both sales are expected to take place Thursday.
You'll soon be able to go to one online retailer to buy everything from a toaster to jewelry and furniture using bitcoins. Overstock.com CEO Patrick Byrne tells both the Financial Times and The Los Angeles Times that the company plans to accept Bitcoin in the second half of next year — and possibly within the next four months. The retailer does over $1 billion of revenue primarily reselling closeout merchandise it acquires from other stores, and it would be the largest retailer to accept the virtual currency. Others like Reddit, OkCupid, Ouya, Virgin Galactic, and the University of Nicosia in Cyprus recently opened up to Bitcoin payments.
The US Department of Justice unsealed a summary of the evidence it has collected against Kim Dotcom, Megaupload, and other alleged conspirators on Friday. The 191-page document lays out details on how Megaupload and its associated sites, employees, and operations — termed the "Mega Conspiracy" — operated and, according to the DOJ, committed racketeering conspiracy, copyright infringement, and money laundering. The investigation concludes that Megaupload made over $150 million in revenues from premium memberships over the years, plus over $25 million in advertising revenues. Those revenues are said to be a direct result of Megaupload's willful promotion of copyrighted materials.
iPhone hacking group evasi0n announced today that it has completed an untethered jailbreak for iOS 7 which is now available for installation now on any iOS device that’s capable of running iOS 7.0 through 7.0.4. The process is surprisingly simple, taking only five minutes to complete and works on both Mac or PC.
This is the first untethered Jailbreak that has appeared since the debut of iOS 7. A crowd funding site even appeared to help bolster the cause—which has raised over $10,000
