Apple has purchased Topsy, a search engine and analytics firm for tweets that's been one of Twitter's biggest partners, reports The Wall Street Journal. Though there's no clear implication for what Apple might do with Topsy, the Journal suggests that it could begin using Topsy's data to better target ads, to inform users of its products about popular subjects, or to generally tap into of-the-moment interests. Apple confirmed the acquisition to the Journal, which reports that the purchase price was over $200 million.
Since the system's launch in North America on Nov. 15, Sony has sold more than 2.1 million PlayStation 4 consoles, according to an update from Sony Computer Entertainment president and group CEO Andrew House.
With the console's launch in 32 countries across the Americas, Australia and Europe, the PS4's install base has grown from one million on launch day, to more than 2.1 million — a new record for the company, House said.

A British judge has ruled that HTC must stop selling its One Mini handset in the UK from this Friday, Dec. 6, after finding that it infringed upon Nokia's patents. A report from Bloomberg states that the HTC One was also found to breach certain Nokia patents, but Judge Richard Arnold delayed any action against that product to give HTC the chance to appeal, as a sales ban of the flagship handset could "considerably" damage the company.
UK mobile operator Three is extending its free roaming destinations today. After initially rolling out free roaming to some European markets, Three now supports the US, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and Macau. Three customers will be able to use their UK data, text, and calling allowance while in the US and 10 other countries for no additional cost. While a number of UK carriers offer roaming services across Europe, Three is the first to provide free data, calls, and text roaming to the US.
Mobile messaging service Snapchat has been in the limelight for apparently having rejected plenty of suitors, and it seems like the startup is staying independent — after it snagged Emily White, the executive in charge of running Instagram’s advertising business, AllThingsD reports.White will be taking up the Chief Operating Officer post at Snapchat — becoming second in place to CEO and co-founder Evan Spiegel.
