Google has confirmed for the first time that it will introduce an app store dedicated to Google Glass next year. The company relayed its plans to Marketing Land, after a New York Times editorial hinted at the prospect, although it did not say if the Glass app store will be part of the regular Google Play store, or something entirely separate.
Google Authenticator, an app that generates two-factor authentication codes for services that offer the additional security layer, is coming under fire from users who claim that the latest update for the iOS version wipes all existing accounts when installed.
In effect, the update disconnects all services that users have connected to the app — which could include GitHub (which launched two-factor security today), Twilio, Evernote and others — which must be resynced all over again.
Apple has sent out a second round of event invitations to media today – this time directed specifically at Chinese publications and journalists, for a follow-up event to their September 10 shindig at Apple Campus in Cupertino. The invites have the same graphic as the original, but will occur September 11 at 10 AM CST at Beijing’s World Trade Center. This marks the first time Apple has held a standalone event specifically for Chinese media.
Google may have leaked the Nexus 5. In a promotional video published yesterday of the Kitkat statue being delivered to mountain view, you can see one Googler taking photos with a phone that features a landscape nexus logo, a large camera lens and a bigger form-factor than any other previously released Nexus phone.
Google has since removed this video, after it was first reported by The Verge.
Pokemon X and Pokemon Y will see the return of classic partner Pokemon Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle, it was announced during today's Nintendo Direct.The chosen Pokemon will later be able to Mega Evolve in battle once the player has evolved it into Venusaur, Charizard or Blastoise and obtained its individual Mega Stone. Nintendo also confirmed that in order to Mega Evolve Pokemon, players need to obtain an in-game bracelet called the Mega Ring which holds a Key Stone that triggers the evolution of the Pokemon.
Microsoft is finally giving gamers a date for the Xbox One release: November 22nd. After announcing its $499 pricing back in June, the Xbox One will launch in just over two months time in 13 countries: Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Spain, United Kingdom, the US, and New Zealand. Microsoft previously delayed its Xbox One launch in eight European markets, where it plans to now release the next-generation console in early 2014.
Samsung has had a busy day today. During their IFA presentation they announced the Samsung Galaxy Gear – a smart watch with a 1.63-inch 320 x 320 AMOLED display, speaker, camera and 70 apps available at launch – a new Galaxy Note 3m, which has grown to 5.7 inches, packing 3GB of RAM and a 13 megapixel camera AND a new 7.9mm thick Galaxy Note 10.1.
